Non-binary, or nonbinary, is an adjective used to describe people who don’t feel they exclusively consider themselves a man or woman, in terms of social gender roles. Nonbinary people may feel that they have no gender, multiple genders, or different genders at different times.

Many nonbinary people go by gender neutral pronouns in place of pronouns like “he/him” or “she/her”. The most common gender neutral pronouns are “They/them”

and, to a lesser extent, “Ze/Zir”.

However, not all nonbinary people prefer gender neutral pronouns, so it’s best practice to ask somebody what pronouns they prefer.
Nonbinary people may or may not dress or act androgynously. Nonbinary people may or may not seek medical treatment to alter their physical sex characteristics.

This could take place in the form of hormone therapy or top surgery, for example. Everyone is different, and their identities should be treated with respect and kindness.
